Hailing from Washington DC, Gabriel received a master’s degree in Media Studies from the New School in New York City. It was there that he developed his professional foundation in both production and programming for television, film, and radio, working for companies such as MTV Networks and Clear Channel. After moving to Laos in 2008, Gabriel founded the Luang Prabang Film Festival a year later, with a desire to bridge the Southeast Asian film industries and their communities, while fostering the growth of the Lao film industry. He and his work have been profiled in media outlets across the world. Notable publications include: Time Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and the Bangkok Post.
