Luzi Matzig was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland and graduated from the Verkehrsschule St. Gallen, Switzerland with a major in Transportation.
He started his career working for Swissair ground operations in Zurich, Switzerland followed by postings in London, U.K., and then in Berne, Switzerland. He moved to Thailand in 1971, and worked for Diethelm Travel in Bangkok, where he served as General Manager and was later on promoted to Group Managing Director with responsibility for operations in Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Yunnan/China.
He started his own company, Asian Trails Ltd., in September 1999 and currently holds the position of CEO. The Asian Trails Group has 33 offices with 600-plus staff in Thailand, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Aside from managing Asian Trails, Luzi is also involved in various ventures in the cruise and hotel industry, namely Cruise Asia Ltd., operating 3- and 6-night river cruises on the RV River Kwai (10 cabins) in Kanchanaburi, Thailand; the Paradise Ko Yao Boutique Resort and Spa on Yao Noi island near Phuket, Thailand; the Legend Chiang Rai Boutique Resort and Spa in Chiang Rai, North Thailand; and the SUNSET HOUSE, a 4-bedroom villa in Luang Prabang, Laos, located on the Mekong River.
Luzi is an avid aviation enthusiast. He has also ventured in establishing VIP Jets Ltd., operating executive air transport by a Cessna Citation Mustang C-510 twin-jet to destinations anywhere in Asia.
